Nowadays people can use computers to talk, learn and communicate without leaving home. There is a danger that it will cause more isolation and a lack of communication among people. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
In the demanding and often fast-paced modern society, computers are widely used not only in learning and business negotiating but also in private chatting to improve convenience and efficiency. However, in the meantime, the growing tendency of isolation and a lack of communication has aroused public concerns. Personally, I think this concern is of no sense.
Isolation, when it comes to emotional issues, only exist in the lonely people who refused to open his or her mind to others, it does not matter if he or she always spend a long time staring on the computer screen. My sister used to arrange all her leisure time before the computer with a microphone in her head, which surprised all the family members. We were so anxious about her mentally health that we encouraged her to be happy and get rid of the computer. Her face flushed and she announced her boyfriend, who was a Chinese IT engineer working in the US. It seemed that they were always meeting together under a digital camera. They are now living happily as husband and wife, whose romantic love story started and developed from the social networking sites.
The proliferation of computers facilitate the communication among people. As an easygoing access to contact with friends, computers provide us with an opportunity to share our glory, depression, motivation, and deeply rolled feelings with friends from remote area at the touch of a fingertip. Individuals boost their interpersonal skills by competing in their fans because it takes character and self-control to be charming. Admittedly, the overindulgence in the virtual world will cause the alienation between family members and friends. However, this demerit can be counteracted by using it in a moderate way. Moderation is the key to successfully utilizing the internet.
To sum up, there is no definite link between alienation and the overwhelming use of computers. Indeed, many feel isolated and lonely in the midst of crowds or even while talking to others because they are trapped in their own world or because others are in theirs.
Problems arise not from technological development but from people themselves. Computer is but a tool, the misuse of which it is not responsible for. |
