You are right. Being anti-social is the last thing you want to do. Lunch room is such important place to learn about the new job, new company and new culture. When I just started, I have the same feeling, but I was not about to eat at the desk, because I want to listen.
You'll learn how people live their lives here. Most popular topics are kids, pets, books, movies, cooking/foods, politics during election time. Some people can tell pretty funny stories. It seems like they are all pitty little things, but that what life is. From 5-10 people of you company, you can have a pretty good understanding of the socialty and life here.
You'll get familiar with your co-workers a lot quicker if you join the lunch. After a while, you can start ask them to explain some of the jokes. Just tell them that you don't get it. Till this day, I still ask if I don't get those jokes. It's understandable that they don't offer explaination yet. They have not known you well enough.
Getting to know your co-worker is a very nice feeling. After a while, they are like you family, especially in a small company. They give advise, offer help and share you happiness and sadness. You will like them more. How cool is that to work with the people you like every day!
不容易,因为我没有你那么高的英语水平!!! |
