Thanks For what I’ve Learned in Canada
As the seasons subtly change, crossing from the last summer until now, I have been viewing and admiring every thing that has happened around me since I came to Canada in May of last year. When I looked back at the past, I found that I had achieved and learned a lot on this journey in Canada. This is not only about studying in English, but also considering different angles to understand this world. I feel my field of vision has been extending more and more with time, subtly changing as the seasons change. When exploring the interior of my spirit and mind, I find I have become more composed, thankful and confident. I really appreciate this opportunity and the circumstances which help correct some of my past thoughts and renew and create a new self. Here is some of what I have learned in Canada, and I am sure will continue to learn more in my future journey.
1. I have learned a lot from my classmates. Looking at some of my classmates, I am amazed they have so much great potential to solve their difficult problems, and come up with creative way that they may never have had to do in their native country. A lot of students’ lives are full. They try to study in school every day, and make the best use of their time to earn income from work to support their life. Some classmates are very active by joining some form of volunteer services for society to more quickly acclimatize themselves to their new land. This seems to increase the speed of their steps. I think this is just a temporary rain and gale which is teaching them while they learn how to fly better. Nothing will retard their life’s growth.
2. The longer perimeter I travel, the more I learn. Everyday we face classmates that have various backgrounds such as country, history, culture and religion. I need to gain more knowledge about geography and world history to help with understanding each people. It is established that it is never too late to learn something.
3. Do not spend too much time to recall or compare things, especially our distant past to now or different things between different nations. Otherwise, it will be easier to have some negatives and complaints about our new circumstances. I began to learn to be like a child again, trying to forget y past, not looking back but looking ahead with hopes and dreams and trying to enjoy every little thing around me now. I think the key is that we need to more renew how we look at things. I try my best to learn what it is I really seek. Then I follow this with a peaceful and hopeful mind. I believe a strong person has a distinctive independent way to think, and is not so easily controlled and blinded by something. It is very important to be patient and humble in order to watch, listen, and learn to assimilate what is beneficial from our surroundings and give up some bias. Also do not forget yourself in particular. Something may seem logical and feel comfortable but in fact may prevent us from learning to be independent.
4. I have learned to build a harmonious relationship between nature, humans, animals, birds, and insects. I can not hold myself in when I look at some affecting sight that takes place beside me. When I look at them I drop into deep thought. For instance, one day I saw a young girl holding a dog leash in one hand and an ice cream in her other hand. Suddenly the dog paused for a while beside a tree. I watched as the girl took out a plastic bag from her pocket and went down to pick up something with the plastic bag .In that moment I realized what the girl was doing. I felt very moved by the young girl’s leisurely way. I think she knew well how to take care of the dog and nature as her close friends. Moreover, I still remember a dragonfly flying on to my finger, stopping for rest, when my husband and I were camping last year. I looked at the dragonfly, feeling quietly moved. It rested peacefully on my finger for a few minutes then continued to fly freely again. I am very thankful for this little friend’s trust. Every day I feel Canada’s peaceful and beautiful nature inspires me a lot to learn new things and new ways.
5.Thanks that Canada can offer a wonderful college to let me study English here for free and access the electronic and paper book libraries. I appreciate my teachers who are full of wonderful charisma and ardor when they instruct us. I think they are not only just following a routine, they are teaching us by their sincere and passionate heart. They like to pause with patience to listen to others who exert themselves to struggle to express something in English though it sounds so hard. I appreciate teachers that try to organize some interesting activities and things to enjoy. .For instance, the school trip to the farm and picking apples, drawing pumpkins for Halloween, commencement, calling other students and leaving telephone messages, our Secret Santa, etc. All of these activities help me learn not just English, but about life in Canada
Every one has a very different experience and view that they catch sight of when they walk on their path in life. Maybe we will finally reach our goal and find joy in it. However, when we are walking our individual paths, do not forget to pause for a while to think about what you have learned and be thankful for the chance. Only this way can help us to forget what we suffer, and go on with hope and appreciation like a happy child. |
