JOB DEVELOPER, Bridging Business Careers Program
Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multiservice organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, child care, educational and employment services, and youth development.
Primary Function: To outreach to the employer community and generate employment opportunities in the competitive labour market for internationally trained individuals with a professional background in business, finance and senior administration.
Responsibilities:
• Identify good sources and prospect for job leads and internship opportunities
• Develop job orders and fill placement opportunities for program participants in keeping with their skills and qualifications
• Liaise with job coach to identify clients’ interests and profiles; focus job development process accordingly
• Promote agency services to employers and the benefits of hiring candidates
• Determine employer needs and clarify job requirements
• Match candidates with job requirements in consultation with job coach
• Arrange job interviews and coach candidates in relation to employer expectations
• Follow up on referrals made to employers and close on employer’s choice of candidate
• Evaluate work sites to ensure safety standards and appropriate training conditions
• Provide employers with administrative documents and communicate requirements
• Prepare contracts and training agreements, training plans where necessary and arrange for employer signatures
• Provide job coach with updates and feedback about client activities and status
• Maintain accurate documentation and provide statistical information as requested
• Evaluate results, record weekly activity and submit reports to program manager
• Assist in the development of marketing materials
• Make presentations to employer groups and business associations
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of Tropicana Community Services
• Represent the organization in a professional manner at all times
Qualifications Required:
• Post secondary education
• Proven success in a marketing, sales or business development environment
• Exceptional presentation and negotiation skills
• Knowledge of current labour market and business trends
• Experience working with newcomers and internationally-trained professionals
• Experience in nonprofit environment an asset
• Self-directed and results-oriented
• Team player
• Computer literate
• Ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial environment
Working Conditions
• Location AYCE
• Environment Office and on the road
• Mobility Travel required
• Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. generally; will vary according to the needs of
employers.
