Sunday night's USA-Canada hockey game was watched by an averge audience of 10.6 million TV viewers in Canada, becoming the most-watched sports program in Canadian television history.
In the U.S., the game was carried on cable network MSNBC; NBC carried ice dancing. USA's 5-3 thriller was its first win over Canada in Olympic hockey in 50 years.
The average audience was 59% higher than the number of Canadians who watched Super Bowl XLIV.
The game was watched in part by nearly two-thirds of all Canadians, or 21.5 million viewers (64.3% of the Canadian population).
The Salt Lake City gold medal game between the same two teams was watched by an average of 10.3 million Canadian TV viewers for the previous high mark.
