温哥华《24 hours报》关于给孕妇让座的争论

温哥华《24 hours 报》有个栏目叫 What's in your mind，是让读者发言的。上个月28号吧，有一位孕妇抱怨坐架空列车时，很多时候没有人给她让座，于是发了篇小牢骚：

I'm eight months pregnant and I have taken the SkyTrain since the beginning of my pregnancy. Since I started to clearly show two months ago, there have only been three instances where people have offered me their seat. My pregnancy is obvious. People routinely make eye contact with me and then immediately look down at their feet, presumably because they know they should probably offer me their seat but don't. I'm shocked no one thinks it's the polite thing to do.

第二天，有两篇回应这位孕妇的发言被登了出来，第一篇中规中矩：

If you are pregnant and need a seat on SkyTrain, try asking the person who is sitting in a seat designated for seniors, disabled, and others with needs. I am sure no one will say "NO" if you ask. Why wait for someone to give you attention? You just have to ask.

第二篇的发言是“我不一定会给孕妇让座”，似乎把读者给惹怒了，成为了之后几天大家的众矢之的！

第三天，报社收到大批发言，不得不特别开了半版，发表大家对这个家伙“不给孕妇让座”的讨伐：

开头的几行，就是昨天发表的“不给孕妇让座”内容，报社编辑专门重新引用来给大家看：

第五天，报社有人扮孕妇坐架空列车，做了个现场试验，来验证究竟温哥华的风气，是不是变得象那个 David Mann 说的一样冷酷，结果……

To tell the truth, when I was eight months pregnant and wanted to step up on a bus, a young fellow  behind me gave me a sudden push and jumped onto the bus ahead of me. More unfortunatelly, he ocuppied the last empty seat in the bus. Furthermore, while seeing my depressed expression, this youngster returned me a "smart" and "brilliant" smile, which looked as a vaunting  of his "flexibility" and almost made me faint at that misarable as well as helpless moment......

其实就我平常观察，多半乘客都是很主动给老弱病残让座啊？很多年轻人情愿面对空着的老弱病残座位也不会坐下去的。

不过有一次碰到件事还让我有点侧目，正好就在这里说了。不知道是不是在这呆久了，习惯了老外多数都还比较谦让，打个比方说吧，俩人几乎同时到达skytrain门口的时候，男士通常略停一拍让女士先进（当然不是在车门正要关上的瞬间）。有天在车上和站上人都不算多，车门口根本没人的情况下，我和一位男士几乎同时到达门口，我习惯性觉得男士会停顿一下，就自然而然的直接进，结果俩人差点卡了一下。
上了车，我站在一个座位前面，那男士在我旁边。过了一会坐着的小伙子起身准备下车，我自然而然侧身准备让他。虽然平常我不会特意去找座位，但在那种旁边显然没有比我更需要座位的乘客并且座位在我正前方的情况下，通常我也会坐。我让了小伙子准备转身坐下的时候，明显感觉到那位男士的压力，他从椅背方向准备挤过来抢这个位置。不过当时我都已经站在座位前方了，当然不必要让给他。这一站上来一位身材苗条的白女正好站在我面前，正欣赏她的凉鞋呢，到了下一站，我背后一个人要下车了。估摸着白女是想坐的，但没抢过那位男士，并且脚趾头被男士的皮鞋结结实实踩了一下。我眼睁睁的看着觉得心里一紧啊！白女惨叫一声，我也忍不住回头看了一眼，奇怪的是，男士面无表情，不仅没有sorry，连个歉意的表情都没有！就这么木木的转头望向窗外。

我不得不很愤恨的在这里说，那位男士肯定是华裔无疑（身上有带简体字的东东），而且一看穿衣风格，应该是登陆不超过2个月的新移民。——我不是歧视或者批判某个人群，只是表达一下难过的心情，因为在当时周围的人看来，一定心里暗想，中国人怎么怎么样……

可不可以请各位朋友培养这样一个意识，在国外，哪怕在温哥华这样一个多元文化的地区，还是注意一下，很多时候我们的身份不是我们自己，在外人看来，我们就是“中国人”

Does this vaunting youth look like a native? Well, actually I have also met some rude native teenagers here in Toronto, especially those from families living in buildings supported by the government at very cheap or even free of rent.

DEAR THANKS FOR YOUR CARE&KINDNESS：）BTW, I am still in CHINA, so actually, the vaunting younster I met was one of  my 'fellow countrymen' , which had made me feel so sorry. I do hope the pregnant women all over the world could be kindly treated and lead a happy life all day long, after all, it is them who give birth as well as wishes to the future through fierce pain......
