e-Work Courses
As this is a pilot, there is no course credit.  Participants willreceive CLB based feedback on their language improvement after each course.Note that each course incorporates socio-cultural competencies, interculturalawareness, human rights, inclusive language and diversity awareness, as thesetopics are relevant to all working contexts and skills.

How long will it take me to finish a course?
Each course is a total of 16-24 hours long and contains about 6-9 hours ofself-access instruction and another 7-10 hours of learning activities andpractice exercises. As a general guideline, if you can study 4-6 hours everyweek, you can finish one course in a month.
Each course is divided into 4 or 5 lessons. Each lessoncontains many learning activities, most of which can be completed in 20-30minutes, although some are up to 90 minutes.  These shorter learningactivities can be more easily scheduled into a busy day.

How will I be assessed?
Each course includes an assessment component, totalling 3-5 hours, containing 3 parts:
  • An assignment     that requires the student to apply what they have learned in the workplace     and write a report about it. For participants who are not working, this     portion of the assessment will be modified.
  • An assignment     that requires the participant to reflect on what they have learned and     share an example on the discussion board.
  • One or more     online tests that assist in determining the participant’s CLB level of     achievement.

Note that these online CLB tests are informal. This means they have notbeen 'tested' extensively with hundreds of test-takers. Even though they havebeen checked and checked again, there still may be mistakes or questions thatare not clear. It takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to do the kind oftesting that is required in a formal test to make it scientifically valid andreliable.
