这部分比较了中加两国的教育体系。

先是本科部分。中加两国对于本科教育都是要求12年的小学、中学教育加上4年的本科教育。原文如下（因为俺是本硕连读，所以中国部分的那个Master在这里应该理解为Bachelor）：

The first four years of study toward the **** University, Master of **** normally require the completion of a total of 16 years of study: 12 years at the primary and secondary level, and 4 years at the undergraduate level.

The completion of the four-year bachelor degree in British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada normally requires the completion of a total of 16 years of study: a minimum of 12 years at the primary and secondary level and a minimum of 4 years at the undergraduate level.


接着是硕士部分。中加两国对硕士教育的要求有点不同。中国要求3年硕士。加拿大要求2年。

原文如下：
The completion of the **** University, Master of **** normally requires the completion of a total of 19 years of study: 12 years at the primary and secondary level, 4 years at the undergraduate level, and 3 years at the master level.
All three years of study are considered to be at the master level.

The completion of the master degree in British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada normally requires the completion of a minimum of 18 years of study: a minimum of 12 years at the primary and secondary level, a minimum of 4 years at the undergraduate level, and 2 years at the master level.



PARTⅡ中的总结和PARTⅡ中具体讲两国间同等学位比较是重复的。这里就不再啰唆了。

终于进入PART Ⅲ了。

这一部分是把每一科目的成绩转换成加拿大的计分。然后计算GPA。对于年轻同志来说，现在国内貌似已经实行学分制了，就直接计算GPA。对于老同志――比如俺――当年上学时没有学分制，是学时制、百分制。这就要转换一下。

ICES评估报告有三种，估计BASIC的就没有这部分了。SUPPLEMENTAL的据说是按照某专业的特殊要求，把几门特定的课程拿出来评估。

在中国，科目的重要性是按照学时来算的。学时越多，科目越重要(但是也有例外，比如每年都有，每个专业都是必修课的政治）。成绩是按照百分制来算的，考得越好，就越接近一百分。

在加拿大，科目的重要性是按照学分计算的，科目越重要，学分越多。成绩是按照字母来评分的，从Ａ到Ｃ到Ｆ(Fail)。[写到这里，突然想起论坛老大常常被叫成老Ｆ。]

没做这个评估前，就在猜测这个转换的方法有多么复杂。很神秘的样子。接到report后，看看它的说明，俺就笑了。ICES采取了很土的方法把学时转换成学分。俺再次败给高科技。

ICES说，俺在取得硕士学位共用了Ｎ学时（比如4200学时）、Ｍ年（比如7年）。这样，俺每一年的学时是Ｎ／Ｍ（比如4200/7=600学时/年）。一般来说，ＢＣ省的学生每年要完成30个学分。所以，Ｎ／Ｍ=30学分（比如600学时/年=30学分，即20学时换成１学分）。

把这个比例用在每一个科目上，就可以把每一科目的学时转为学分了。比如，俺有一门高等数学是54学时，54/20=2.7学分。这门高数就是2.7学分了。

这段话打字打得烦。接下来就是把百分数的成绩转为ABCD的字母评分，以及每个字母的代表的分值。就来张相片吧。

按照这两个表格计算出grade point。然后就是算GPA了。

为什么俺的GPA这么低呢？ 是不是ICES搞错了？到网上查一查，发现GPA有多种算法，ICES采用哪种呢？是不是UBC网站上的那个方法呢？还是老办法，写电子邮件去问ICES。反正交了这么这么多的钱钱，不问白不问。况且ICES也说有什么不明白的尽管来问。

这次回信也比较快，第三天就收到了。这回老外没有象上次那样打太极了（详见17楼）老外很明确的回答了：YES。ICES采用的GPA的计算方法就是UBC网站上介绍的方法。然后老外详细的介绍了具体的方法：

GPAs are a weighted average, with points assigned on the basis of grades: A=4 points, B=3, C=2, D=1 and F=0. The points are multiplied by the credit value attached to a course, and the whole thing is divided by the total credits for courses that have a grade attached (so passes are not included).

As an example, the GPA of these courses is 2.00:
Credits Grade
3 A
6 B
9 C
12 D


The GPA of these courses is 3.00
Credits Grade
12 A
9 B
6 C
3 D

如果有需要ICES评估，大家不妨按照上面讲的方法自己先算计算计，看看自己能有什么结果。


拿到ICES的报告后，一定要自己把学时学分等校对一下。俺成绩单上的学时和ICES报告上的学时就出现了比较大的出入。但是经过电邮询问和自己计算，GPA的结果并没有太大区别， 也就没有再找ICES理论了。
