Searching for a new place was something that kept upsetting me in the past two weeks. I went through a couple of different type of opportunities, studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, furnished, unfurnished. Some are expensive. some are cheap. This is enough for me to make decision. So I'll try to close the deal this week. My starting point is the furnished studio. Yesterday an agent, a 40's Indian guy, showed me one unit. The unit is on top floor, thus has good view from the window. It's nicely furnished with almost everything I would need (even three rice cookers), plus something that I wouldn't need, e.g. VCR (I don't know whether it's still possible to find a tape when VCD/DVD is so poppular these days) and coffee maker (I haven't learnt how to make coffee though I sometimes really think I should make coffee myself than contributing Starbucks's business everyday). It's also very quiet and clean. So, you see, I like it, indeed.
The Indian said the current tenant is leaving on Dec. 16, so I can move in on Dec. 17 which is really the last day I should move out from my current place. We had some negotiation after he showed me the room, and established some mutual assent on the basic terms like rent, term, security deposit, repairs etc. Then I filled up an application form and he's going to prepare a lease for me shortly. I got to know this Indian three months ago from another Chinese girl. She rented her apartment from him as well. I hope he's trustworthy though I haven't seen his lease.
These are some pictures of the complex. I'll take pictures of the unit if I get to move into it. Stay tuned.
