To: President Mohammed Hosny Mubarak
Presidency of the Republic
Abdine Palace
Cairo, Egypt
From: Dhawa
Suite 102, Gate 6, Bldg 6
Chaoyang District
Beijing 100024 P. R. CHINA
Dear President Mubarak,
Please excuse me for venturing to write this letter to you. With much respect, I'm writing from Beijing, China, a country who cherishes a brotherly affection with Egypt, to let you know how deeply I love the country you are serving and the people you are leading.
I've been magnetized by ancient Egyptian civilization and myths since early childhood. My dream of seeing this country finally came true earlier this year, when I took a holiday down the Nile on a cruise called "Song of Egypt," from January 30 till February 8. Not only was I able to behold those spectacular and thrilling historic sites, as well as the desert and the blue Nile that had been so dear to my heart since I first learned of them from books and movies, but also I seized every opportunity that was available to interact with the locals there, who crossed my path with overwhelming warmth and angelic friendliness.
I was particularly surprised--and also spoiled--to see how much people there loved China and how quickly and accurately people separated Chinese from other East Asian tourists. Indeed, there are no two other countries on the planet, where people long to see each other's country and worship each other's civilization this much. I was also touched that there were young people quoting the Koran to me that to seek knowledge it was never too far to go to China, and there were also young people who told us that their president taught them China had always been their brother.
It's been over 3 months since I returned to China, and none of the days have passed without thoughts of Egypt. My 10 days' sojourn in Egypt unfolded a different world to my liking, bringing to me a brand-new vision of being and a chance to find my adopted home. I have an increasingly strong feeling that Allah will send me to Egypt again. I'm hoping to be a Chinese language and culture instructor at a university in Cairo, to contribute my proper share to the cultural exchange between China and Egypt and to deepening our friendship. And in making this wish, I'm looking forward to your kind support.
Thank you very much for your time. I hope that this letter will find you in great health.
Sincerely,
Dhawa |
