Dear Mr. David Miller:
I'm from Beijing, China and am currently residing in Vancouver, Canada, to work on a number of projects between China and Canada aiming at bringing mutual benefits to both countries.
Currently this month, to celebrate the 60th anniversary for the success of China's anti-Fascist struggle, China Central Television has launched a 20 part TV series--Dr. Norman Bethune, reminding all Chinese of the Canadian hero that has been warmly remembered and widely admired in China, for saving the lives of many Chinese party members and soldiers and helping China unselfishly against the Japanese Fascist.
I'm writing just to let you know that, in memory of Dr. Norman Bethune and as a follow-up to the popular TV series, a delegation of 26 outstanding Chinese TCM doctors from Beijing, China, as well as government officials from China Ministry of Public Health, including former Minister of Public Health of China, along with a small TV crew from China Central Television IV, wish to embark on a 12 day sojourn in Canada in mid-September or October, with me being their liaison here in Canada.
During their short stay in Canada, they hope to visit such major cities as Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa, as well as Dr. Bethune's birthplace--Gravenhurst, Ontario, to see the Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site of Canada. More meaningfully, they sincerely hope to meet with Canadian government officials to discuss potential cooperation between China and Canada in the field of medical science and technology. (With China's century coming, Canada has still not become one of China’s greatest trade partners worldwide. It's high time we got prepared. Indeed, there is so much more we can do between China and Canada. )
On an academic level, they wish to visit medical colleges here, especially the medical school of University of Toronto, where Dr. Bethune once studied, and to hold a conference there with Canadian medical specialists, exchanging up-to-date information on medical research and TCM development. Meanwhile, they hope to reach an agreement with the Canadian experts in jointly building up an Internet protocol--Sino-Canada Bethune International Medical Technology Info Service Center. It is in our plan to contact 10 Canadian hospitals and medical research centers for cooperation with Chinese hospitals and medical research institutes in such fields as Dermatology, Neurology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Plastic Surgery.
China Central Television (CCTV), China's only national television station, is planning to follow and film the entire trip for a program by CCTV4--a satellite channel in Mandarin serving overseas Chinese audience as well as Chinese nationals. The program will be broadcast worldwide, which unquestionably can be a great chance to publicize Canada and to prepare Chinese people's interest in Canada once Canada officially becomes another overseas destination for Chinese outbound tourists, which will happen sooner or later.
In making our dream a reality, and in making this a greater event, we sincerely look forward to your serious and careful consideration, your favorable support and assistance in any ways possible. We need someone in your organization to specifically take care of this proposal, to send to us an official invitation as part of our application for a budget in Beijing to fund our trip and to contribute to making this visit and its TV program afterwards a huge success. We will also be glad to answer your questions and provide you with any information that you may request. A prompt reply will be highly appreciated.
