帮助新移民找工作的“竹子网络”(Bamboo Network)初见成效，中国移民杨君成功在抵温两个月内，投身建筑业，成为首位从省府技术移民实习计划协助下，找到工作的新移民。原来只要积极求助、知道门路，新移民也可以在短时间内找到工作。

　　今年4月才在温哥华定居、来自中国陕西省的杨君，学的是电子工程(Electrical Engineering)，他从没有想到，才报到2个多月的他，就已经在省政府开办、协助技术移民实习就业的“技术联系”(Skill Connect)计划协助下，顺利受聘于另一名中国移民成立不久的建筑工程公司，任职建筑电工，开始领取第一份薪水了。

　　杨君昨日分享他的新移民找工之路。他觉得自己很幸运，开始的时候，他就像大部分新移民一样，到政府的就业中心找机会，后来他理解到，本省建筑业正蓬勃发展，特别需要建筑相关的工程师，而他所学的是电子工程，与从事建筑工程中需要的电工(construction electrical technician)的基本原理相同，只需重新学习本地的标准和规范即可接轨，于是他开始准备电工执照的考试。

　　杨君表示，他循一些管道找到了一名有电工执照考试资料出售的人士，他去买资料时，顺便请他代为介绍工作，即使做义工，他都很乐意，就是这一句话，让他认识了也是中国来的移民North America Smart Group的老板田林，杨君就在田林那边当起义工来。

　　“竹子网络”助找工

　　杨君说，他从就业中心的职员处了解本地就业问题时，职员给了他多元文化互助屋协会(Multicultural Helping House Society)的电话，并告诉他该协会有帮助新移民找工作的“竹子网络”计划(Bamboo Network)，或许可试试。于是他参加了“竹子网络”举办的新移民找工座谈会，在会上，每名参加者须说明自己的专长及短期想找的工作，而杨君提到他想从事建筑电工方面的工作。

　　不多久，“竹子网络”告诉他，他想从事的工作，刚好符合多元文化互助屋协会最新得到省府资助而开办的、资助技术移民实习就业计划，但要获得该计划的补助，必须要有中高级的英文程度以上，所以要他赶快去考试，确定他的英文程度。杨君表示，那时他还特别找了一个新移民可免费参加的英语为第二语言(ESL)鉴定考试，鉴定结果他的阅读能力有8级，其他听、说、写的能力则是有7级，满足了被补助技术移民的资格。

　　后来，田林的建筑公司也参加了“竹子网络”的雇主部分，由于杨君原已在田林的公司担任义工，顺理成章获得受聘，而有了省政府的补助后，他已从本月开始领取薪水。

　　杨君说，该计划的设计是，4个月的实习期间需约8000元，政府帮忙负担2/3，即5280元，另外自己负担20%，其他由雇主负担，也就是他可领取8成正式员工的薪水。

　　省政府协助技术移民找建筑行业所需技术工作人员的计划，不仅让新移民受惠，雇主也觉得是德政。雇用杨君的田林说，他移民加拿大5年，先是在多伦多住过，那里也有类似计划，但不像卑诗省政府是针对建筑行业欠缺的技术人员，他在半年前设立North America Smart Group建筑工程公司后，需要电工、木工及水喉工(plumber)，透过政府所办的计划，他不仅可以找到合格的技术工人，还让他更有能力去培训这些刚报到的新移民，他认为是一举两得，帮助了新移民，更帮助本省建筑业的发展。

　　田林透露，除了杨君外，他还计划再用相同方式培训2至3人。

Networking Sessions - Connect clients with employers coming from the same filed. These sessions give clients the opportunity to meet employers and discuss their skills.
Job and Apprenticeship Placement Assistance - The Bamboo Network will work with employers to match employer needs with clients' skills and experience. Professional and skills profiles are developed to distribute to prospective employers.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
To assist newly arrived immigrants in professions and trades find employment in their chosen field, gain a better understanding of the Canadian Labour Market, develop job search and networking techniques, assess educational/accreditation requirements.
