Hi, Monamis,

This is a question about pet, in fact it's about the way people treat pet.

I heard from one friend who has many local contacts, one day some Chinese went to their local friend's home. After the meal, their left a bone with some meat on it,  so one Chinese gave it to the host's dog. The host saw this and became quite upset.

You know, in China, it's common that dogs eat what owners can not finish in their meals.

Is the local friend's reaction normal? Is it a quite big offence for the Chinese to do that?

Thx!

well, I still remember when I told one of my colleagues that dog is eatable in China, they are really surprised. They only regard dogs as pets, not meat. I explained that those dogs which are being eaten in raised only for eating, just like chicken and cows and we don't eat pet dogs.
I believe it is also the cultral difference between western culture and eastern culture.

Thank you for your inquiry about pets,
sorry i was away in Montreal when this question was asked,

We in North America have found that feeding pets "our scraps", is unhealthy for the animal,
over the years it causes cancer in the joints, around the back legs, limphatic cancer i believe it is called. The animals suffer greatly, and eventually having been destroyed.

i personally have lost 2 Shelties, because people were feeding it human food without my knowledge, i had grown very much in love with my pets, and it caused me a great deal of grief to have to have them both put to sleep.

So, this is possibly why people were so harsh

sorry
but it is extremely difficult to have to lose a pet.

hope this helps,

Doug (Monamis)

Monamis, thank you so much for your sharing! It really helps me understand the feeling of pets' owner when others feed human food to their pets.

Welcome back to Vancouver! Hope you have had a wonderful x-mas holiday with your family in Montreal!!!

Raising pet can only end up to two results: it either gets lost, or died, both are sad.

So to avoid seeing these sad endings, I don't want to have a pet. But now I have found something to raise, tortoise, coz you can never live longer than them ;-D

First of all, I am very glad to find a place to have some topics with Monamis: a local people, which was the thing I longed for. I want to join this group with all of you to get a good understanging about the local calture.
The history of raising a dog by human being is quite long. People from different aero or culture have diffierent ways to raise a dog. People raise dogs for different reasons. Some of them raise a dog to take care of their properties. Some of them raise a dog to help them with herd. Mostly those dogs have their own food. People from cities they raise a dog as a pet. Of course those dogs as pets live in good contions, not mention with their own food. Despite all of different from above, the owners love their dogs and dogs are really honest animals, mostly the dog is a member of the family.
I never have a dog by myself. I like dogs the same with my family members. One day if I have a farm, I certenly will have as many dogs as I can.
Nice to meet you everyone.
Happy new year.

Re: To: Monamis, about pet

It is nice to talk to everyone about pets
in the western society, dogs are not concidered anything other than pets
or animals trained for various possible uses, for protection of property ,search and rescue, guard and guide dogs, or as other mentioned, protect farm animals and hurding them,

Dogs for the most part are and do become family members over a period of time

Consumption of a dog would be unthinkable in this society.

We have to understand and respect other societies, and the way they live. and the choices that society has to make to survive, and carry on.

i am not certain if this particular icon is approapriate, so forgive me if i miss queed,
we are all different in that point of view, but we are all the same, we are all human, and we all want to progress, do better, and leave this world a better place, we can only succeed in doing that in talking like we are now.

hope this helps a bit

touroises, need a home also, live a long life in their normal habitat, but not so long in captivity usually,
if sea tourtoses, would be best at sea,
happy to meet you,
hope we can continue to talk,

i remember having turtles when i was much younger,
had a couple of snapping turtles, and mud turtles,
they became too big, and gave them back to their homes.

Where i caught them
