Ontario energy executives top ‘sunshine list’ again
Executives at Ontario’s energy agencies are again at the top of Ontario’s so-called
sunshine list.The list, released on Friday, shows the salaries of public-sector workers making over $100,000 a year.
Tom Mitchell, president and CEO of Ontario Power Generation, topped the list with pay of $1.71 million in 2013, about the same as in 2012.
Hydro One’s president and CEO Carmine Marcello, who started his job in January last year, earned $728,570, including taxable benefits. His predecessor Laura Formusa, who retired, received $159,500 last year.
Other notable names include Toronto Mayor Rob Ford at $175,000, Toronto Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly at $104,000, Ford’s assistant Amin Massoudi at $105,000, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne at $198,000 and opposition Leader Tim Hudak at $180,000.
The average salary dropped by $143 to $127,433 in 2013 from $127,576 in 2012.
The $100,000 mark has remained the same since the list was introduced in 1996. If it had kept up with inflation, it would now be $141,705. A fifth of the people on the current list make more than $140,000.
The number of people on the list has increased about 11 per cent last year to 97,796 names and by almost 40 per cent since 2009.
The list includes those who work for the provincial government, crown agencies, municipalities and hospitals, among others.
