Nearly 3,000 Toronto cops earned $100K or more in 2013

Nearly 3,000 cops and other Toronto police staff earned more than $100,000 a year, according to public documents.
In 2013, 2,983 police constables, detectives and other employees of the force and the Toronto Police Services Board broke past the $100,000 mark, according to the annual public sector salary disclosure report.
Some notable names include chief Bill Blair who was paid $334,291.41 last year. His three deputy chiefs Peter Sloly, Michael Federico and Mark Saunders made $240,873.65, $215,581.60 and $208,824.97, respectively.
The top paid civilian was the chief administrative officer, Tony Veneziano, who was paid $240,879.81 last year.
The force’s spokesman Mark Pugash earned $178,246.82, the same as the Toronto Police Service’s corporate psychologists, Catherine Ann Martin-Doto and Carol Marie Vipari. Staff superintendents Jane Wilcox and Richard Stubbings each earned almost as much at $178,245.00.
Sixteen superintendents took home more than $165,000 a year.
Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux, the lead investigator on Project Brazen 2, focusing on Mayor Rob Ford and his occasional driver Alexander Lisi, made $160,994.16.
The highest paid detective was Nancy Van Veghel at $167,140.69, while the highest paid constable was James Wallace at $172,690.81. The highest paid plainclothes cop was Shingo Tanabe at $153,090.75.
The salaries of 13 staff inspectors range from $152,411.65- $154,439.68.
Seven of the highest paid parking enforcement officers include:

Lallman Lall at $119,832.03
Vijeyyakumar Alaguras at $110,753.03
Hiba Demian at 109,960.74
Zulfiqar Khimani at $109,891.66
Martika Jost at $105,083.09
Alex Ho at $101,544.95
For the period ending Dec. 31, 2013, the base salaries of 1,112 plainsclothes officers were edging towards the $100,000 mark. The upper salary range for another 3,048 police constables was $98,783 in the same period.

The report was released by the Toronto Police Services Board, which will discuss the matter at its meeting next Thursday. Public sector salaries in Ontario are required to be made public under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act. The full sunshine list of public sector salaries are scheduled for release on March 31.
