A very successful Canadian real estate speculator, the guy, once said that the best time to buy real estate is yesterday. I'd say the best time to buy is when it works for you personally. Real estate may go up or down in the short term but in the long term I'd say it will go up. Investing in real estate is not something you do for the short term, as a rule. You do it for long term. If you get lucky and make a pile of money quickly, that's nice but never count on it. Rising interest rates, which we're likely to see in the next year or so, will probably put a bit of a damper on things for a while.
One other guy once tried to buy, as an investment, a house for $90,000 back in about 1990. People said he was nuts to even think about it. Far too expensive for what it was. he couldn't get financing so he didn't buy it. Within 5 years it sold again for $300,000 and today it would be worth about $600,000. |
