卡尔加里大学被教育部除名

CALGARY — The Chinese government has removed the University of Calgaryfrom its list of accredited institutions — a move school officials areconcerned is connected to the Dalai Lama's visit last fall
The university hosted the Tibetan spiritual leader and awarded him an honourary degree when he visited the city in September.
InDecember, officials were made aware the Chinese government had removedthe university from a list posted on the Ministry of Education'swebsite.
Now the university is trying to see what impact thatwill have on Chinese nationals who have already obtained a degree orare working toward one at the institution.
"Our biggest concernis we don't want to disadvantage current or prospective students or ouralumni," university spokeswoman Colleen Turner said Wednesday.
The Chinese government has made no official communication to the university indicating what it has done or why.
Theuniversity learned of the move late last year after an employee in theinternational student centre and a handful of students raised theissue. They did not indicate to the university how they heard about themove, Turner said.
While there has been no confirmation thesanction is a result of the university's involvement in the DalaiLama's visit, Turner said the university is concerned there is a link.
Aspokeswoman with the Chinese consulate in Calgary would not respond toquestions about why the government removed the university's name,saying only cryptically that the U of C "should know."
TheHerald has learned officials from the Chinese consulate in Calgary metwith university representatives in April when they outlined they didnot want the Dalai Lama on the campus and they were against him beingawarded an honorary degree.
The spiritual leader did not go tothe campus, but was given an honorary doctor of laws at the start ofthe two-day conference on Sept. 30.
He has been awarded morethan 25 honorary degrees from institutions around the world, includingthe University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University andUniversity of Toronto and others in the U.S., Italy, Australia andGermany.
"We knew at the time the decision to bring in the DalaiLama would not be without controversy. All of that said, the decisionto bring in the Dalai Lama was not intended to dishonour or disvalueour relationship with our Chinese partners or the Chinese community,"Turner said.
The university currently has about 600 students from mainland China and Hong Kong.

周书记确认！ 阿省的大学真少. 『大汗』 有点过了，认证名单应当只跟教育质量有关系，怎么跟政治牵扯上了？『反对』 很该知足了。 什么东西都要为政治服务？有点莫名其妙。
要是哈佛呢，估计不会剔除。所以，还是捡软柿子捏呀。可怜了那里的中国留学生了。不过，也不知道这个除名有啥具体的影响没有，呵呵。 确实已经删了

现在回国的留学生学位需要教育部认证,不能认证用人单位不承认.这样中国学生就白读了!『大汗』 教育和政治挂钩，不应该 全都REMOVE了才好呢 这不就等于把自己的孩子往绝路上推吗？他们是无辜的啊。
就好像21年前参加活动的在毕业分配时被秋后算了账一样。

申请转学也是一条途径 MITBBS:
U of C不是第一个给DL喇嘛的加拿大大学，更加不是唯一的一个，为什么U of C呢？Calgary是哈珀的老窝，也是加拿大红脖子的老窝。近年来石油经济不错，他们有点不知道马王爷几只眼了。U of C也是没事找事，在中央大餐厅（cafeteria）里，大大地竖了一个“民主女神”像，算是纪念中国民运？要标榜自己的正直、自由，不顾中国当局的反对，硬要给DL喇嘛一个荣誉博士，以为反正中国不能拿他们怎么样，结果被中国反手来了这么一下。U of C现有600多来自大陆和香港的学生，有几个人要求转学了，但大多数人还在观望。说老实话，中国这么做，对这些学生不大公平，也有点太重手重脚，但拿这样一个不大不小的大学做榜样，不可能不受到北美学界的注意，谁再要和老和尚拉近乎，就要想想后果了。
U of C的损失到不一定就是这几百个学生，甚至是未来来自大陆、香港的学生。当然，损失这笔财源是很肉痛的，但更大的损失来自名声：“唯一不被中国承认的加拿大大学”在今天已经不是一个光荣牌了，这种别扭的名声对U of C在西方的学术地位也是影响，这不是光荣，而是二愣子。
U of C现在有点手足无措，一方面坚持授予老和尚荣誉博士是对的，另一方面强调这不是要冒犯中国（真TMD放屁，本来就是有意冒犯，就是要捋捋加菲猫的胡须，没成想加菲猫变成大老虎了），同时拼命和中国沟通，“解决问题”。估计中国最后会放他们一马，就看他们做怎样的姿态了。即使U of C不公开反悔或者道歉，中国可能也会放他们一马，因为后面的人已经看到了，只有确认地雷不会炸响，才有吃饱了撑的人会去闯地雷阵。 不知道最后什么结果, 不过想想, 卡大的中国学生有多少是打算海归的呢? 如果本来就是打算出来镀金的, 一般也不去卡大了吧. 吃亏的还是留学生吧
杯具 really？ 今天在太傻看到有人发帖问过教育部了，说是不向中国学生推荐去该校留学，但是毕业归国的教育部还是认的，而且一样可以办留学认证之类的，一点都没有影响。估计是政府想拿这个吓唬吓唬卡大，呵呵。
