Not-for-Profit Names

Like businesses, not-for-profit organizations can also incorporate. As with business names, not-for-profit names cannot be confusing with existing names or marks. In general, the same rules governing confusion with business company names also apply to not-for-profit names.
Examples:

Existing
National Association of Shoe Manufacturers

Proposed
Canadian Shoe Manufacturers Federation — acceptable
International Society of Shoe Manufacturing — acceptable
Canadian Shoe Manufacturers Association — not acceptable


Legal Elements for Not for Profit Names

There is no requirement for a not-for-profit corporation to have a legal element.
You may however, if you choose, have one of the following legal elements:
Incorporated   Inc.
Corporation   Corp.
