Surrey is a dynamic, rapidly growing City with an Engineering Department of 370 staff involved in a variety of municipal services including water, sewerage, drainage, environmental, transportation, traffic management, land development servicing and Operations. The City of Surrey has 2 exciting opportunities for Civil Engineering Graduates to launch their career in the municipal engineering department.Engineer in Training – 2 positionsThe City of Surrey EIT program provides up to 48 months of diverse training of increasing level of responsibility under the direction of a Professional Engineer in order to position the EIT for certification as PEng with APEGBC. EIT’s will be placed within the Water, Sewer, Drainage & Environment, Transportation, Traffic Management, Land Development or Operations sections and may also have an opportunity to rotate into several positions during the EIT program, depending on workload and vacancies. EIT’s are regular full-time employees who will be provided an opportunity to continue within the Department as a PEng, as opportunities arise upon completion of the EIT program.
General Skills Description
The successful applicants will have at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a high academic standing. Experience in related municipal work will be considered an asset. Status or eligibility to be an Engineer in Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. is a requirement. Good computer skills in word processing, database and engineering software programs such as Word, Excel, Access, GIS, AutoCAD and hydraulic and/or traffic modelling. Good ability in preparing and interpreting engineering plans and specifications. Good organizational and time management skills, along with communication skills are required.
