Dear Professor,I'm keen on my major –the Second Language Acquisition –and I'd like to pursue my further study in your university as a visiting scholar around July, 201X for a year and hope you to be my mentor. Our government will provide some scholarship for me when studying abroad. My special interest goes to the studies of Chinese English Foregin Lanaguage learners’ vocabulary development in oral production. I won't take much of your time and I would like to give you a hand if you'd like to. My detailed personal information is involved in the attachment and you may take a close look at it. My personal hobbies lies in table tennis, badminton, cooking, singing, dancing and so on and I hope to share them with you.

我抛出个砖头，不妥的话，请将其再仍回来！总体上看，你这封信不是写给某个教授的，更像是写给admissions committee的。如果你是学SLA的，那你恐怕需要做很多的工作。除了基本的写作技能外，语言功夫也还需要花些时间的。
Dear Professor [应该加上教授的姓，否则没有人会理你的。],
正文至少要分为数个段落（除了封内地址和salutation外），每个段落应该有不同的目的（由主题句体现出来）：
第一段：应该写你写这封信的目的。
第二段：应该写你为什么联系这位教授。你对他/她的哪些研究感兴趣。你们有什么interests in common.
第三段：应该写你期待加入他的研究团队，并如何做出你的贡献。
第四段：感谢他对你申请考虑和对此所花的时间。
第五段：期待他的回复。
第六段：你的complimentary close。
第七段：你的名字
第八段：你的signature block（如果有的话）.

不过慢慢来，相信经过你的努力，你是会成功的！
祝你好运！ 『大汗』或许因为我和楼主用的教材一样一样的，思维一样一样的，表达方式一样一样的，看这封信就是很亲切 Dawn的提纲列的很好，其实这应该是求职的cover letter的格式，LZ搜搜，不难的，有一些是套话。
建议称 ”Dr.xxx “，好些 『大汗』或许因为我和楼主用的教材一样一样的，思维一样一样的，表达方式一样一样的，看这封信就是很亲切

穆子，你要小心了，这可不能有亲切感！否则你的英语得需要100年的时间才能学好了！

你可以问问william，他的申请和你的情况差不多，所以可以借鉴一下
你的这封信最好还是先根据自己的学术情况写成中文，再找人润色。你现在的英语基本上是中国英语。

改动只能是文字上的，真正的内容还是无花果最了解自己，将自己的真实情况反映出来。
所以还是从内容上入手的好！
