Finding work is a challenging process for Canadians and for immigrants. It is essential that you prepare to work in Canada before you move. Even if you have many years of work experience in your home country, you may not be able to work in your trade or profession in Canada. There are many things you can do in your home country to prepare for working in Canada and make your job search easier.

One of your first steps should be to prepare for an assessment of your professional qualifications. Many employers will require you to have your credentials assessed and accepted before they will hire you. These assessments measure how your training, education, and experience compare to Canadian standards. They may also indicate what further training may be needed before qualifying to work in Canada in your occupation. As well, most regulated occupations do not permit persons to practice their professions without a license. If you plan to practice your profession in Canada, you should first determine whether you will be eligible for a license to practice and, if so, what you must do to become licensed.

You should also use this time to begin researching potential employment in Canada. There are a number of electronic job banks which you can access for informationand job postings. For more information about living and working in Canada, including language skill and credential assessment, visit the Going to Canada website at: http://www.directioncanada.gc.ca/

Document Checklist

Other than the immigration forms, the documents listed below are examples of typical documents used to demonstrate family relationships and the selection factors applicable to a Skilled Worker application. This list is not inclusive. You bear the burden of submitting sufficient evidence in support of the assessment factors applicable to a Skilled Worker application.

Immigration Forms - available at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/skilled.html
One application form (IMM008) on which you will indicate your spouse and your dependent children, if any
Schedule A for yourself, your spouse, and any dependent children aged 18 years or more
Additional Family Information form (IMM5406)
IMM6476 - Use of Representative form (if you have changed representatives since submitting your application, or desire to appoint one for the first time)

Civil Documents
The following documents will be required, if applicable, for yourself, your spouse, and for each of your dependent children:
●Birth certificates
●Marriage certificates
●Divorce certificates
●Child custody orders
●Adoption decrees
●Death certificates

Education
The following documents are required, as applicable, for your-self, your spouse, and for each of your dependent children over age 22, if these children were not under 22 years of age at the date of your application:
●CDGEDC (China Academic Degrees & Graduate Educational Development Centre) report(s) - certifying your graduation and transcript - if your educational credential is issued in the People's Republic of China. The Chinese language website is www.cdgdc.edu.cn
●Official transcript(s) for secondary and post-secondary program of study.
●Diploma(s), Degrees, or Certificates for secondary and post-secondary programs of study.

Work History
●Appointment/confirmation letters/ employment reference(s).
●Pay slips issued from your present employer.
●Detailed description of your job responsibilities (past and present).

Proof of Available and Transferrable Funds
●Bank statements and passbooks
●Fixed deposit receipts.
●Securities (shares, debentures, bonds)

Third Party Language Test
Given the date of your application, the Regulations applicable to your application permit you to submit language test results issued by a designated third party testing organization or other evidence of proficiency. Language test results from a designated testing organization are conclusive evidence of your proficiency in the English and French languages. You are strongly encouraged to submit a language test report from a designated testing organization.
If you submit other evidence of proficiency, a visa officer will assess it against the Canada Language Benchmarks, 2000. If your other evidence does not demonstrate proficiency at the benchmarks defined by the Canada Language Benchmarks, 2000, you will not be awarded any points of assessment for proficiency in English and/or French. A visa officer will then give you only 30 days to submit language test report from a designated testing organization. This is because the deadline to comply with this letter instructing you to submit a full set of forms and supporting evidence gives you ample time to arrange for language testing before submitting your forms and supporting documentation.
ENGLISH TESTING: There are two testing organizations, IELTS and CELPIP: Information on the IELTS test in English can be found at www.ielts.org/enquiries.htmand http://www.ares.ubc.ca/CELPIP/index.html
FRENCH TESTING: Information on the French language test, Test d’evaluation de francais (TEF) is available at www.fda.ccip.fr/sinformer/tef/

●Cost recovery fee for any family member you are adding to your application since the submission of your Simplified Application form. Note that if a new family member is declared, but a cost recovery fee is not paid, we will consider that family member as not-accompanying and we will not promptyou again to pay the applicable fee.
